Start Making Sense - Political Therapy @1000 Trades

Has politics stopped making sense to you? Is it raising your blood pressure? Driving you up the wall?

Political Therapy can help. 45 minutes of fire side chat with our guest. A break for refreshments and book signings. 45 minutes of Q&A.

We all emerge different people. This is when we are planning to do so over 2025 – more guest being lined up as we speak:

  • Phil Tinline (1 April) will bring us Ghosts from Iron Mountain – his new book. The mid-1960s story of a satirical hoax – claiming that the winding down America’s vast war-making machinery would wreck the economy and tear society apart, necessitating draconian population controls – that many refused to believe wasn’t real and whose legacy lives on. We will push through these walls of dark imagination to analysis of America’s contemporary psychosis. You can book for this here.
  • Andy Beckett (6 May) will bring another story that begins in 1960s radicalism. The Searchers is the long march of Benn, Livingstone, McDonnell, Abbott and Corbyn to a new Britain that is always just around the bend. We will also assess the current state of the UK’s politics and economy with this Guardian columnist
  • Dominic Grieve (3 June) will score the first five years of Brexit, drawing on the wisdom accrued as a Conservative MP from 1997 to 2019 and now the Vice President European Movement UK, and look ahead to the next five years of relations with our near neighbours.
  • Isabel Hilton (21 October) will make us feel better, having recently written in Prospect about how Trump may be unable to reverse the momentum towards a green transition that the US secured under Biden. We will look at climate politics, electrostate China and its global role, and where this leaves the UK with this Contributing Editor at Prospect, who has reported extensively from China and Hong Kong.

We are trying to do about one Political Therapy a month – so, keep an eye out for us adding more events and see you soon! If you'd like to subscribe our mailing list and keep up to date with what's coming down the track, please email info@1000trades.org.uk
